The face of an aged person with white hairs represents the emoji. The character wears reading glasses in some iterations. Old man👴 and old woman 👵 emojis were a part of 2010 Emoji 1.0, but there was no neutral gender old person emoji to talk about older adults in general. This gap was filled by introducing this character. It is used when talking about elderly people without being gender specific.
